As part of the Seminars class of the Master’s program in Web Technologies and Systems Engineering at ISLA Gaia, the Research Center would like to invite you to attend an online seminar on the topic “Exploring Machine Learning: Understanding the core concepts and applications”

Introduction to Machine Learning with practical application that illustrates most of the basic concepts. Presentation of a python notebook with the resolution of an exercise that uses several supervised and unsupervised Machine Learning algorithms. The notebook covers several concepts, which will be approached as the exercise is performed.

At the end of the seminar, the notebook can be made available so that students can test it individually.

Our guest is João Miguel Alves who is currently completing the PhD Programme in Health Data Science from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), with his research focusing on clinical decision support systems powered by explainable artificial intelligence.

João is lead data scientist at Metyis, collaborating researcher at the Center for Health Technology and Services Research (CINTESIS@RISE), guest lecturer on health data analysis and modelling at the undergraduate medicine program from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), and guest lecturer on machine learning and data mining at the postgraduate program in Business Analytics and Data Science from the Polytechnic Institute of Management and Technology (ISLA Gaia).

João holds a BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto (FFUP), a MSc in Marketing from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto (FEP) and a MBA from Porto Business School (PBS).

The seminar takes place next Saturday, April 27th, starting at 10am. The seminar is given in English, is free and online, but registration is required.
